Our healthcare system, with its multiple payers and competing incentives has led to predicable results: quality problems, dissatisfied physicians and patients, and frustrated employers and payers. The VIP Network is a prime example of how frontline physicians may play a lead role in measuring, defining and disseminating quality. It is time for a paradigm shift in our health care marketplace, one that allows for balanced and effective incentives which align the behavior of all stakeholders to transform our system into one that consistently delivers high value-based care that is safe, effective, efficient, timely, patient-centered and equitable.
With the advent of health care reform and the gradual implementation of Medicaid ACO's and bundled payments in our health care marketplace, the VIP Network is committed to supporting QI collaboratives focused on empowering hospitalists to connect the silos of our fragmented system and align ourselves with our consumers: (1) Hospitals; (2) 3rd Party Payers ; (3) PCP;s and (4) Patients.
Please check our next link and review an example of a pilot QI project focused on a critical element of our fragmented health care system: PCP-Hospitalists discharge communication.
